Novel predictive risk factor for erectile dysfunction: Serum high‐sensitivity C‐reactive protein

Abstract: Background: C-reactive protein (CRP), as a marker of inflammation, may be closely related to erectile dysfunction (ED), however, there is no meta-analysis exists for it. Objectives:We aimed to verify the relationship between CRP and erectile dysfunction and to explore the changes of CRP levels in ED patients after first-line treatment. Materials and methods:We searched databases including the Cochrane Library, PubMed, and MEDLINE to identify studies up to January 1, 2022. We performed a comprehensive analysis … Show more

“…Zhang et al performed a meta-analysis involving 7 relevant studies and identified NLR and PLR as independent risk factors for ED 8 . In addition, serum C-reactive protein-albumin ratio and serum high-sensitivity C-reactive protein have been associated with ED risk 7 , 24 . It is worthwhile emphasizing that PDE5i treatment can significantly reduce serum C-reactive protein levels 7 .…”

It is worthwhile emphasizing that PDE5i treatment can significantly reduce serum C-reactive protein levels 7 . Hence, HALP can reliably predict the risk of ED.…”

“…Furthermore, a recent novel meta-analysis concluded that CRP is statistically significantly associated with erectile dysfunction and could possibly be a marker or a risk factor for the condition [ 446 ]. CRP has also been assessed on penile vascular disease where there can be a slight increase (mean approx.…”

“…Meanwhile, they found PDE5I therapy can improve the abnormal CRP levels. 9 Sembel et al performed a compare study including 101 ED patients and found a higher PLR, NLR and CRP than sexually active male. 2 Systemic immune‐inflammation index (SII), as a new integrated indicator based on peripheral blood lymphocytes, neutrophils, and platelets, was reported a relationship with hyperlipoidemia, cardiogenic shock, hypertension, and depression.…”
