“…Thus, there is a significant difference between lattice parameter determined from the (111) and the (200) diffraction peaks that needs further discussion. These deviations between the experimental and the expected lattice parameters for the (200) peaks was already observed for the PdCu alloys [27,29]. The significant difference between (a 200 À a exp ) and (a 111 À a exp ) denotes an anisotropic deformation of the crystalline structure.…”

“…The fact that there is a linear relationship between the experimentally measured and the expected lattice parameter is a clear indication that the bulk and the surface concentration are identical. [26,27], the fcc phase is formed directly upon electrodeposition and no further heat treatment is needed. Elsewhere [38], PdeAg films were prepared by electrodeposition.…”

“…Using an apparatus and procedure that have been described previously [40], the permeability of a 14 mm thick Pd 83 Ag 2 Au 15 / 0.1mmPSS disc (modified with ZrO 2 ) ternary alloy membrane was compared to that of a similarly prepared pure Pd membrane. At T ¼ 673 K and DP ¼ 50 kPa, the alloy membrane displayed pure H 2 permeability of 1.3 Â 10 À8 mol m À1 s À1 Pa À0.5 , slightly higher than that of the pure Pd sample, 1.2 Â 10 À8 mol m À1 s À1 Pa À0.5 .…”

“…In a series of PdCuAu ternaries with Pd between 53% and 87% (at) and Au from 3% to 8%, Coulter observed that substitution of Au for Cu increases the permeability of the parent PdCu alloy [50]. Substitution of Ag for Cu in PdCu also improves permeability: Tarditi reported that a Pd 68 Cu 25 Ag 7 alloy is 3.9 times as permeable as Pd 67 Cu 33 [51]. Peters examined a series of PdCuM ternaries with Pd between 65% and 75% (at) and M from 1% to 14% (i.e., near Pd 70 Cu 30 ) with M ¼ Ag, Au, Ru Mo, Ta, and Y [46].…”
