Novel of (PLA/PCL blend)/Gd2O3 rare earth oxide nanocomposites: Shape memory effect, thermal, magnetic, and mechanical properties

Abstract: Poly ɛ‐caprolactone (PCL) and poly lactic acid (PLA) stand out as biocompatible polymers. In this study, PCL and PLA were blended in 40:60 ratio, respectively, and then the Gd2O3 compound, which is an important earth element oxide, was mixed in PLA–PCL shape memory polymer (SMP) blend at different rates and polymer blend nanocomposites were obtained. First of all, the effects of Gd2O3 oxide on the thermal properties of the SMP blend were determined with a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and thermogravi… Show more

“…In addition, asymmetric -CH bending at 1454 cm À1 and symmetrical -CH bending at 1360 cm À1 are some of the notable strong signals. 42,43 Along with these strong signals, the absorbances of the signals at 1181 cm À1 and 1084 cm À1 , which are attributed to the C-O-C asymmetric and symmetric stretch vibrations, respectively, are quite strong and do not overlap with other signals. 44,45 Finally, the -CH bending in methylene, which is the characteristic signal of PCL, is present in all spectra at 860 cm À1 .…”

“…3 is examined, it means that it is an immiscible blend as both polymers show their own properties [ 31 , 32 ]. In the DSC curve of pure polymer blend, the curve at 66.5 °C is attributed to both the T g of PLA and the T m of PEG, while the curve at 176.9 °C is attributed to the T m of PLA [ 33 , 34 ]. In the DSC curves, there was a noticeable decrease in the T g values of PLA, especially with the increasing MNP ratio.…”

“…These materials have a stronger rigidity than other SMP compounds with fast shape recovery since they are frequently developed on crosslinked semicrystalline frameworks or (multi)block copolymer complexes 43 . The majority of T m ‐type SMP materials are based on polyolefins, polyethers, or polyesters, particularly poly(‐caprolactone), 97 as given in Figure 8. Polyethylene in heat‐shrinkable films serves as a classic example.…”
