Novel nanocomposite based on reactive organoclay and photosensitive aliphatic–aromatic polyamide: Synthesis and characterization

Abstract: Novel polyamide/organoclay nanocomposites were prepared through solution intercalation technique. Reactive organoclay was prepared using Cloisite‐Na+ and protonated form of 4,4′‐diaminodiphenylmethane via ion‐exchange reaction. New photosensitive aliphatic‐aromatic polyamide containing dibenzal acetone moiety was successfully synthesized through direct polycondensation. Flammability and thermal properties of the polyamide and corresponding nanocomposites were studied. Thermogravimetric analysis results indicat… Show more

“…Increment in the T g value of nanocomposites relative to bare PA is attributed to decrease in volubility of polymer fragments at interfacial regions [1,9,53]. Also, increase in T g value with increase in OC content indicated to greater interaction between the OC and matrix in greater content of OC [2]. However, the nanocomposite with 5 mass% OC content (PACN 5), showed the T g value of (2408C) that decreased with respect to PACN 2.…”

“…In recent years, polymer/clay nanocomposites (PCN), as a new class of organic–inorganic hybrid materials, have become an active field of research and attracted much attention because of enhanced properties including improved thermal stability, flame resistance, biodegradability, increased mechanical properties, and decreased gas permeability. Also, they have been widely used in packaging, textile industries, electronic materials, and coating . The PCN typically exhibited superior physical properties than the corresponding pure polymers which make them suitable for use in aerospace and transportation.…”

“…16,17 The improvement of several polymer nanocomposites, based on silver nanoparticles, has become very important because of their various potential applications in material science, medical science, and industry. 26,28,29 There are several methods for preparation of silver/ polyamide composites including silver nanoparticles, such as the sonochemical method in water with ethylene glycol as a reducing agent, 30,31 using silver nitrate with ethylene glycol and poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone) by electrospinning, 32 thermal reduction of silver acetate through melting and the chemical reduction method by using of a toxic reducing agent such as sodium borohydride. 24 Aromatic polyamides are the candidates of choice to be utilized as matrices in nanocomposites because of their excellent properties such as high thermal stability, low flammability, and excellent [25][26][27] However, aromatic polyamides showed poor solubility in common organic solvents and high transition temperatures.…”

“…To overcome these limiting factors for processing, structural modification of the polymer backbones is an efficient method; for example, the presence of ether and aliphatic groups, bulky side groups, and unsymmetrical structures in the polyamide backbone has improved the polymer properties. [33][34][35][36][39][40][41] The present study deals with the synthesis of a novel organosoluble aliphatic-aromatic polyamide containing ether linkages in the main chains and its subsequent nanocomposites with the Ag nanoparticles.…”
