Novel multihop transmission schemes using selective network coding and differential modulation for two-way relay networks

Abstract: In this paper, we propose a novel multihop transmission scheme using selective network coding (NC) and differential modulation (SNC-DM) for two-way relay networks (TWRNs) when neither the source nodes nor the relay nodes know the channel state information (CSI). We first develop a bidirectional transmission scheme using NC where the information exchange in a two-way multihop relay network with the arbitrary number of hops can be completed in four transmission phases. As a result, the maximum achievable through… Show more

“…Some existing studies have focused on the two‐way multi‐hop transmission design based on general relays in the literature. [20] proposed a DF‐based multi‐hop transmission scheme with asymptotic transmission rate up to 25, where the asymptotic transmission rate is further increased to 24 in [26]. The outage probability of AF‐based multi‐hop transmission was analyzed in [57].…”

“…Figure 6 illustrates the system throughput of different UAV relaying schemes under different periods T with average transmission power of UAV P=0 dBm and P=10 dBm. For the UAV relaying protocol, an efficient four‐time‐slot two‐way multi‐UAV relaying protocol in [26] is referred to, which can work on any number of intermediate UAVs in the UAV‐assisted two‐way multi‐hop relaying system. The number of UAVs as relay nodes is set as M=4.…”

“…Most of these works got the hop count by counting beacons or resorting to simulations. In [14], the authors proposed a novel multi-hop transmission scheme, which used selective network coding and differential modulation in two-way relay networks. In [15], there was a counter of beacons for average hop count.…”

“…Noted that in (14) the one-hop delay is associated with p. Therefore we can find the relationship between the one-hop transmission range R and the average one-hop delay E[D o ] through the following equation 3.4 Multi-hop delay By using (1), (7) and (13), the average multi-hop delay can be written as follows, while satisfying the connectivity probability…”

“…Network coding (NC) has been known as an efficient technique to significantly increase the capacity of communication networks [1][2][3]. Recently, it has been applied to improve the transmission efficiency of two-way relay networks (TWRNs) [4,5]. In [6,7], a three time slot (TS) NC scheme based on decode-and-forward protocol was first introduced to TWRNs.…”
