Novel method synthesis of CdO nanowires

Abstract: Large-scale single-crystalline CdO nanowires have been successfully fabricated from the electrochemical deposition mixture film of Cd and Te at 450°C, and characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD) powder, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). SEM and TEM images show that these nanowires are uniform with diameters of about 40–60 nm, length up to several tens micrometres. XRD and selected area electron diffraction analyses altogether indicate that these CdO nanowires cryst… Show more

“…Bulk CdO is an n-type semiconductor with a direct band gap of 2.5 eV and an indirect band gap of 1.98 eV [1,2], even though reports of 2.32 and 1.36 eV are also available [2,3]. CdO thin films exhibit large third-order nonlinear optical properties [4].…”

“…11 Although clear electrodes, diodes, gas sensors, and antibacterial activity, for example, are other potential physical applications, these materials have widely been used to meet desirable requirements. [12][13][14][15] There have been several CdO nanostructures forms created at a variety of nanoscales for several purposes and applications, eg, nanoclusters, 16 nanowires and nanotubes, [17][18][19] nanoparticles (NPs), 20,21 nanocrystals, 22 nanorodes, 23 and many more exotic structures, eg, CdO-like nanoflower 24 and CdO nanoflake arrays, 25 among others. 26,27 Similarly, hexagonal ZnO is a II-VI composite semiconductor made of the metallic element zinc (II) and the non-metallic element oxygen (VI).…”
