Novel Method for Virtual Restoration of Cultural Relics with Complex Geometric Structure Based on Multiscale Spatial Geometry

Abstract: Because of the age of relics and the lack of historical data, the geometric forms of missing parts can only be judged by the subjective experience of repair personnel, which leads to varying restoration effects when the geometric structure of the complex relic is reconstructed. Therefore, virtual repair effects cannot fully reflect the historical appearance of cultural relics. In order to solve this problem, this paper presents a virtual restoration method based on the multiscale spatial geometric features of … Show more

“…However, the explosive growth of data poses specific challenges to data analysis and processing capabilities. There are still bottlenecks in transforming data into more general information or knowledge to serve management departments, research institutions, museum industry, education, and the public related to cultural heritage (Hou et al, 2018). The application of digital technology in urban villages still has problems such as low information integration and weak information.…”

“…In particular, when a cultural artifact loses its historical value or changes its shape, the restoration effort focuses on recovering the entire or partial shape of a certain period via thorough historical research and consultation with experts [17][18][19]. The restoration of a cultural artifact is usually realized using a manual method that relies on conservators' intuition and techniques [20,21].…”

“…Traditionally, functional repair and aesthetic restoration are undertaken to recover the original form of damaged cultural artifacts [5,6]; recently, various conservation methods using advanced technologies and new materials are being applied in the process of restoring damaged cultural artifacts [7][8][9][10]. In particular, when a cultural artifact loses its historical value and shape, the restoration effort focuses on recovering the whole or partial shape of a certain period by thorough historical research and consultation with experts [11][12][13].…”
