Novel method for rapid, simultaneous T1, T*2, and proton density quantification

Abstract: An imaging method called "quantification of relaxation times and proton density by twin-echo saturation-recovery turbofield echo" (QRAPTEST) is presented as a means of quickly determining the longitudinal T 1 and transverse T* 2 relaxation time and proton density (PD) within a single sequence. The method also includes an estimation of the B 1 field inhomogeneity. High-resolution images covering large volumes can be achieved within clinically acceptable times of 5-10 min. Constant progress in the time efficienc… Show more

“…The sequence was a multi-spinecho saturation-recovery sequence, with 4 saturation delays and 5 echoes. 13 The saturation delays were at 130, 500, 1370, and 2970 ms with a TR Ï 3090 ms. The TEs were 17.5, 35, 52.5, 70, and 87.5 ms. Each acquisition led to 4 Ï« 5 Ï 20 images per section with different combinations of saturation delay times and TEs.…”

“…11 Recently, a novel MR imaging quantification sequence, QRAPMASTER, was developed for rapid and simultaneous sampling of the longitudinal relaxation time (T1), the transversal relaxation time (T2), and PD. 13,14 Included in this measurement is the correction for the B1 field inhomogeneity. With dedicated software, SyMRI Brain Studio (SyntheticMR, Linköping, Sweden), the QRAPMASTER quantification maps can be processed to automatically segment the ICV, as well as CSF, gray matter, and white matter, a process called "synthetic tissue mapping."…”

“…Parameters like TR, TE, and TI can be modified with mathematic inferences rather than being predetermined. [1][2][3] The speed of diagnostic brain studies can thus be reduced to only about 5 minutes with synthetic MR imaging. 4 This advancement may help improve throughput and reduce rescanning, while also providing quantitative information of research interest.…”

“…Rather than predetermining acquisition parameters such as TE, TI, and TR to maximize tissue contrast, 3 synthetic MR imaging produces a free range of synthetic weightings based on a single sequence through mathematic inference. 4,5 The quantitative nature of the method and its ability to probe multiple physical properties in a single sequence make it suitable for volumetric analysis. [6][7][8][9][10] Synthetic MR imaging has shown promising initial results for use in MS and patients with an ischemic event.…”
