Novel Insights into the Effect of Pythium Strains on Rapeseed Metabolism

Abstract: Pythium oligandrum is a unique biological control agent. This soil oomycete not only acts as a mycoparasite, but also interacts with plant roots and stimulates plant defense response via specific elicitors. In addition, P. oligandrum can synthetize auxin precursors and stimulate plant growth. We analyzed the secretomes and biochemical properties of eleven Pythium isolates to find a novel and effective strain with advantageous features for plants. Our results showed that even closely related P. oligandrum isola… Show more

“…Phytohormones in the tobacco leaves were determined as described previously (Belonoznikova et al, 2020; Prerostova et al, 2020). They were extracted and separated on a reverse‐phase cation exchange SPE column (Oasis‐MCX, Waters) into the acid fraction (auxins, abscisic acid [ABA], salicylic acid [SA], jasmonic acid [JA]) by elution with methanol and into the basic fraction (cytokinins [CKs] and 1‐aminocyclopropane‐1‐carboxylic acid [ACC]) by elution with 0.35 M NH 4 OH in 60% methanol (Belonoznikova et al, 2020, Prerostova et al, 2020). The fractions were analysed on a C18 high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) column (Ultimate 3000, Dionex) coupled to a 3200 Q TRAP hybrid triple quadrupole/linear ion trap mass spectrometer (Applied Biosystems).…”

“…Animal feed can be processed from suitable raw materials using cellulases for increased nutritive value and digestibility of cereals (Sathya & Khan, 2014). Fungal cellulases can be used in the agricultural sector explicitly as regulators of seed metabolism (Bělonožníková et al, 2020) in addition to improving the plant performance against pathogens (Kuhad et al, 2011).…”

“…Examples of the efficacy of P. oligandrum against the plant pathogens have been reported for P. ultimum, P. aphanidermatum, Fusarium oxysporum , Verticillium albo-atrum, Rhizoctonia solani and Physperma solani ( Benhamou et al., 1999 , 2012 ). Bělonožníková et al. (2020) described differences among 12 diverse strains of P. oligandrum with regard to their properties and effect on plants, and identified strain M1 with positive influence on plant fitness.…”
