Novel Flow Control Method for Vortex Shedding of Turbine Blade

Abstract: Three-dimensional flow simulations through a turbine cascade were carried out for an exit isentropic Mach number of 0.79 and a Reynolds number of 2:8 Â 10 6 . The main objective is to increase the base pressure. Calculations were carried out using an in-house numerical code, where a 2nd order Roe's flux-difference splitting for inviscid numerical fluxes, a 2nd order implicit dual time method for time integration, and Delayed Detached Eddy Simulation for turbulence were employed. The present idea to increase th… Show more

“…The numerical results or solutions of the fluid flow's governing equations using computers are referred to as CFD. CFD is a vital technique to simulate the flow around blowers [23], gas turbines [24], and wind turbines [25]. In addition, CFD can simulate natural convection flow precisely [26].…”

“…In this paper, the result for making a hole with an inclination angle of 30 degrees between the pressure side and suction side at the trailing area has been presented. This connection may create a phenomenon of blowing and suction between both sides as agreed by [10]. A suction slot on the blade can reduce the total pressure loss while the blowing phenomenon can improve the pressure distribution on the blade [11,12].…”

“…On the other hand, elliptic trailing is found to be able to delay the separation of the boundary layer and reduce the loss caused by vortex shedding (El-Gendi et al, 2013). El-Gendi et al (2010) use the equidistant microtubes that connect the suction side and pressure side at the beginning of the trailing edge to control the wake. They find that the microtubes can reduce the blade profile loss by 3%.…”
