The systematics of energy staggering for the magnetic rotational bands with M 1 and E2 transition properties strictly consistent with the features of good candidates of magnetic rotational bands in the A ∼ 80, 110, 130 and 190 mass regions are presented. The regularities exhibited by these bands concerning the staggering parameter which increases with increasing spin are in agreement with the semiclassical description of shears mechanism. In addition, the abnormal behaviours in the backbend regions or close to band termination have also been discussed. Taking the magnetic dipole bands with same configuration in three N = 58 isotones, i.e., 103 Rh, 105 Ag, and 107 In, as examples, the transition from chiral rotation to magnetic rotation with the proton number approaching Z = 50 is presented. Moreover, the self-consistent tilted axis cranking and principle axis cranking relativistic mean-field theories are applied to investigate the rotational mechanism in dipole band of 105 Ag.

High-spin states of 109Ag have been studied using the 7Li + 110Pd reaction at a beam energy of 46 MeV. A negative-parity band decaying to the ground-state band by several new linking transitions is established. Meanwhile, seven new E2 crossover transitions of this band are observed, thereby confirming the spin-parity assignment and ordering of the dipole transitions above the Iπ = 19/2− level. A low energy γ-ray transition of 88 keV is found and placed at the bottom of the negative-parity band, and thus the Iπ = 17/2− level is tentatively assigned as the lowest observed state of this band. Experimental excitation energies and total angular momenta of the negative-parity band are compared with the predictions of self-consistent titled axis cranking relativistic mean-field theory with a three-quasiparticle configuration of . Based on the theoretical description and the analyses of the angular momentum coupling, this negative-parity dipole band is suggested as a ‘stapler’ band. By investigating the angular momentum components, it is found that the valence nucleons in the low-j orbitals play an active role in the ‘stapler’ mechanism.

The magnetic and antimagnetic rotational bands are systematically investigated in the present work. Up to now, 253 magnetic rotational bands and 40 antimagnetic rotational bands have been reported in 123 nuclei and 29 nuclei, respectively. The experimental data for these bands are collected and collated, including the level energy, γ-ray energies, spin I, magnetic dipole reduced transition probability B(M1), electric quadrupole reduced transition probability B(E2), B(M1)/B(E2), and J (2)/B(E2), etc. In addition, following the presentation of the kinematic moment of inertia J (1), dynamic moment of inertia J (2), and I versus rotational frequency ω, as well as energy staggering parameter S(I), B(M1), B(E2), B(M1)/B(E2), and J (2)/B(E2) versus I in A ∼ 60, 80, 110, 140, and 190 mass regions, a discussion is provided in detail. Based on the systematic studies, the main features of magnetic and antimagnetic rotational bands are summarized. Furthermore, some nuclei are also predicted to be candidates for magnetic or antimagnetic rotation.
