Novel Design of Compact UWB Dielectric Resonator Antenna With Dual-Band-Rejection Characteristics for WiMAX/WLAN Bands

Abstract: A novel compact dual band-notched dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) for ultrawideband (UWB) applications is proposed. Here, the bandwidth enhancement and the first band notch is realized by embedding a stub that is located to the hollow center of a U-shaped feedline simultaneously. By etching an inverted T-shaped parasitic strip at the back plane of an antenna that is surrounded by a dielectric resonator (DR), the second band rejection is created. By cutting a slot at the proper position on the ground plane, … Show more

“…In recent years, with the rapid development of wireless communication systems, broadband and high gain have become two important factors in the design of UWB antennas [1][2][3]. Tapered slot antenna (TSA) is one of the best antennas used in ultra-wideband technology, which was first proposed by Hines et al in 1953 [4], and it is widely used in radio astronomy, ground penetrating radar, ultrawideband communication, ultra-wideband imaging and other fields [5][6][7].…”

“…DR has primarily been used in microwave circuits. It is made up from high permittivity ranging from 8 -100 [9][10][11][12][13]. With several attractive advantages such as exhibit low loss and can produce wide bandwidth, DR will help to maintain the antenna performance and efficiency even at millimeterwave frequency [14].…”

“…DRAs experience very low loss, therefore they ensure higher efficiency without conductor loss. Additionally, unlike dipole or microstrip antennas that suffer from narrow bandwidths, DRAs have fairly wide bandwidths [2][3].…”
