Novel cotton homeobox gene and its expression profiling in root development and in response to stresses and phytohormones

Abstract: Homeodomain-leucine zipper (HD-Zip) proteins are transcriptional factors involved in plant development. In this study, one cDNA clone (Gossypium hirsutum homeobox1, designated GhHB1) encoding HD-Zip protein was isolated from a cotton root cDNA library. The GhHB1 cDNA is 1132 bp in length, including an 828 bp open reading frame that encodes a peptide with 275 amino acids, and 5'/3'untranslated regions. The predicted GhHB1 protein containing a homeodomain and a leucine-rich zipper motif shares relatively high id… Show more

“…In our study, GhbHLH1 was significantly up-regulated (see Additional file 2E), indicating its additional involvement in cotton salt-stress response. Seven TF genes (three GhNAC , two GhHB and two GhMYB genes) were identified at 4- and 24-h salt-stress time points, suggesting that their protein products may play an important role in salt-stress response in addition to the involvement in ABA signaling uncovered in previous research [22, 68, 69]. Transcripts encoding C2H2-type zinc finger proteins (ZAT10) that have been implicated in salt stress tolerance were up-regulated under 4- and 24-h salt stress.…”

“…The Homeobox-zip (HB family) TF members were suggested as excellent candidates to generate stress responses in transgenic plants and cotton root development regulation under salt stress involved GmHB1 gene expression [98], [99].…”

“…HD-Zip encoding genes have been isolated from various plants, such as Arabidopsis [22], rice [13], tomato [23], cotton [24], maize [25] and Physcomitrella patens [26]. HD-Zip proteins have been demonstrated to participate in transcriptional regulation of a series of biological processes related to plant growth and development.…”
