Novel Compound Heterozygous Pathogenic Variants in SUOX Cause Isolated Sulfite Oxidase Deficiency in a Chinese Han Family

Abstract: AimTo explore the clinical imaging, laboratory and genetic characteristics of a newborn boy with isolated sulfite oxidase deficiency (ISOD) in a Chinese mainland cohort.MethodsHomocysteine and uric acid in plasma and cysteine and total homocysteine in the blood spot were assessed in a Chinese newborn patient with progressive encephalopathy, tonic seizures, abnormal muscle tone, and feeding difficulties. “…Besides the stroma of the iris and ciliary body, the trabecular meshwork and the choroid are also enriched with ADAMTSL4 (Chandra, Jones, et al, 2013), which probably explains the glaucoma and myopic changes (long AL and low Km) in some probands. It should be noticed that pupillary block glaucoma secondary to lens dislocation is possible and has been reported in patients with ADAMTSL4 variants (Zhao et al, 2021). Thus, the detailed pathogenesis of glaucoma in this condition warrants further studies.…”
