Novel chalcone-based aromatic polyamides: synthesis, characterization, and properties

Abstract: Two novel diacid-based monomers have been synthesized by anchoring a benzylideneacetophenone (chalcone) moiety through an amide or ester bridge at the fifth position of the isophthalic acid ring. Two series of new polyamides bearing chalcone side chains were prepared by direct polycondensation reaction of the aforementioned dicarboxylic acids and various aromatic diamines in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone, using triphenyl phosphite and pyridine as condensing agents. Their molecular structure and the basic properties… Show more

“…GC-MS analysis also revealed the presence of specific constituents for PDMS devices fabricated from SU-8 molds: chalcone compounds, 2-chloro-ethanesulfonyl chloride and 4-methoxybenzyl alcohol. Chalcones are very reactive upon UV irradiation and are commonly used in the formulation of photoresists such as SU-8 27,28 . Despite their anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-nociceptive, anti-parasites, and anti-proliferative pharmaceutical effects, chalcones have also been found to have a myotoxic effect in zebrafish 29 , and to stimulate apoptosis in human colorectal carcinoma cells 30 .…”

“…Furthermore, the time-dependent density functional theory at the MPW1PW91/6-31G* level and the theory on the relaxed geometries at the UB3LYP/6-31G* level was used to simulate the UV-visible absorption spectra and calculate the triplet state energy levels of the two series of dyes [34][35].…”

“…Chalcone is a class of dyes that can be found in many natural plants and exhibit different light absorption properties and colors depending on the substituents as well as their positions onto the chalcone backbone [19][20][21][22]. In our previous research, more than 50 mono-chalcone derivatives have been studied as photoinitiators for their excellent light absorption properties at the near UV and visible range [23][24][25].…”
