Novel Bisphenol A Epoxide–Acrylate Hybrid Oligomer and Its Photopolymerization

Abstract: An epoxide-acrylate hybrid oligomer was synthesized by reaction of bisphenol A epoxy resin and acrylic acid and its photopolymerization kinetics were investigated using real-time infrared spectroscopy. The influences of photoinitiator concentration on the polymerization kinetics and the unique photopolymerization kinetic character were compared with the blend system of epoxy resin and epoxy acrylate and discussed. The hybrid oligomer showed some inter-group interaction in the photopolymerization process, which… Show more

“…By the combination of UV acrylate composition with thermal cure epoxy composition, UV and thermal cure hybrid epoxy adhesives have been developed and commercialized for over two decades [34][35][36][37][38]. Acrylate monomer, epoxy resin, photoinitiator and epoxy curing agent are at least contained in the UV and thermal cure hybrid adhesives.…”

“…Limitations of UV cure acrylate adhesives are surface cure issue, shadow cure problem, high cure shrinkage and poor humidity reliability. By combination of UV acrylate composition with thermal cure epoxy composition, UV and thermal cure hybrid epoxy adhesives have been developed and commercialized for over two decades [42][43][44]. Acrylate monomer, epoxy resin, photo-initiator and epoxy curing agent are primarily formulated in the UV and thermal cure hybrid adhesives.…”

“…Real-time infrared spectroscopy (RTIR) had become an important method for obtaining kinetics data of photopolymerization [9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16]. Upon irradiation, the decrease of the absorption peak area accurately reflects the extent of polymerization.…”
