Nouvelles données sur les Diptères pupipares(HippoboscidaeetStreblidae)de la sous-région méditerranéenne occidentale

Abstract: RÉSUMÉ. New data on Diptera pupitara (Hippoboscidae and Streblidae) from the West of the Mediterranean subregion. Les Diptères Pupipares sont des Brachycères hématophages et ectoparasi… Show more

“…Lipoptena capreoli (syn. Lipoptena caprina ) is present in the Mediterranean Basin, ex‐Yugoslavia (Dalmatia) and Cyprus (Greece) on goats ( Capra hircus hircus ) (Maa, ; Beaucournu et al ., ), and also on C. capreolus in Israel (Wallach et al ., ). In Iraq, L. capreoli has been found on foxes ( Vulpes sp.)…”

“…In Iraq, L. capreoli has been found on foxes ( Vulpes sp.) and wolves ( Canis lupus ) (Maa, ), whereas, in Morocco, it has been detected on Ammotragus lervia and Rattus rattus (Beaucournu et al ., ) and, in Syria, Cyprus, Israel, Palestine, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan and India, on goats and wild ungulates (Theodor & Costa, ; Kock, ; Theodor, ).…”

“…Ornithophila gestroi, the species genetically characterized here for the first time, parasitizes different raptor species belonging to the genus Falco, that includes species like the Common Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus), the Lesser Kestrel (Falco naumanni), and the Eleonora's Falcon (Gil Collado 1932, Walter 1979, Beaucournu et al 1985, Gangoso et al 2010, thus representing an important piece for studies on host-pathogen interactions on this avian group. Our results showed the presence of a single genetic haplotype in the louse fly population studied in the Canary Islands.…”

“…Adult Eleonora's falcons are commonly infected by Plasmodium and Haemoproteus parasites (Gangoso, Gutiérrez‐López, Martínez‐de la Puente, & Figuerola, ; Gutiérrez‐López, Gangoso et al, ). In addition, both adults and nestlings are heavily parasitized by the louse fly Ornithophila gestroi (Gangoso et al, ), which has only been reported on Eleonora's falcon and the closely related common and lesser kestrels ( Falco tinnunculus and Falco naumanni ) (Beaucournu, Beaucournu‐Saguez, & Guiguen, ; Gangoso et al, ; Walter, ). Louse flies may play a critical role in the transmission dynamics of blood parasites in marine ecosystems, as has been found for different Haemoproteus lineages (Levin, Valkiūnas, Iezhova, O'Brien, & Parker, ; Levin et al, ; Valkiūnas et al, ).…”
