Notizen / Notes. Investigation on the Product from Monobutyltin(IV) Compounds and Benzoyl(thiobenzoyl)methane: a 1,3,2λ5,4λ5‐Dithiadistannetane

Abstract: Butyltin triisopropoxide reacts with benzoyl(thiobenzoyl)methane (LH) to yield BuSn(S)L and an organic sulfide 2 instead of the expected BuSnL3. The use of other butyltin(IV) starting materials invariably leads to the same products. From an X‐ray structure determination the tin sulfido complex is found to be a centrosymmetric dimer, [BuSn(S)L]2 (1) with a planar four‐membered Sn2S2 ring containing pentacoordinated tin atoms.

“…Sulphur atoms serve as bridges in nine examples [94][95][96][97][98][99][100][101] giving tetrahedral [94,97,101], trigonal-bipyramidal [96,[98][99][100] and pseudo octahedral [95] coordination for the tin(IV) atoms. There is one example, [Sn^-S)(mes)(tb) 2 ] 2 [94] which exists in two isomeric, cis and trans, forms.…”

“…However, sulfur containing bidentate ligands such as benzoyl(thiobenzoyl)methane, PhC(S)CH2C (0)P h, in reference to m ain group elements display consider able variance as chelating ligands [4]. In addition, some of the metal complexes undergo intram o lecular rearrangem ent to give an organic sulfide [5,6]. This has prom pted us to synthesize, charac terize and examine the crystal and molecular struc ture of Ph2Pb[PhC(S) -CH -C (0)P h]2 (1) derived from benzoyl(thiobenzoyl)methane.…”
