“…In Europe, Antrodiella americana is only reported from Finland and Norway (Ryvarden & Gilbertson 1993, Johannesson et al 2000, Miettinen et al 2006 and recently also from Russia and Estonia (Spirin & Zmitrovich 2003, Parmasto 2004. Nonetheless, all European collections have distinctly smaller pores, 3-4 per mm.…”

“…Fundamental doubts regarding the identity of American and European A. americana were already published by Vampola & Pouzar (1996) and recently again by Vampola (2011). Spirin & Zmitrovich (2003) also assumed that A. americana could be a complex of several sibling species. To solve this problem, we have performed a more detailed examination of herbarium material from North America and North Europe, supplemented with a DNA sequence analysis.…”

“…Antrodiella americana is a temperate species distributed across North America, Europe and East Asia. However, it could be a species complex as many researchers have suggested (Vampola and Pouzar 1996;Spirin and Zmitrovich 2003;Vampola 2011), and should be divided into separate sibling species. The latest phylogenetic investigation supports this proposal and European specimens have been recently separated from the complex as a new species, Antrodiella niemelaei Vampola et Vlasák (Vampola and Vlasák 2011).…”

“…was suspected by Spirin (2001) and a new combination Porpomyces balaenae (Niemelä) Spirin et Zmitr. was proposed (Spirin & Zmitrovich, 2003). Molecular evidence (Tomšovsky et al, 2010), however, has debunked such placement and keeps this species into merulioid radiation.…”

“…During a time, C. balaenae was sporadically recorded from Central Europe (Czech Republic, Slovakia) (Vampola, Pouzar, 1996), North Europe (Sweden, Finland) (Kinnunen, Niemelä, 2005), and also from Far East (Núñez, 2001) and European Russia (Spirin, Zmitrovich, 2003;Ezhov, Zmitrovich, 2015;Khimich et al, 2015).…”
