Notes - 6-Amino-2-hexanoic Acid Lactam

Abstract: NOTES 1107Identification of (IV). The salt remaining from the hot 70% alcohol extraction was allowed to stand with 2 1. of 70% alcohol at room temperature for two and one-half days. The filtrate was combined with the filtrate from the previous step. On evaporation to dryness 58.6 g. of disodium y-(psulfophenyl) butyrate, probably contaminated with a little sodium sulfate, was obtained. It was identified as its pchlorobenzylthiuronium derivative, m.p. 150-152°.

“…They may be assigned respectively to the vinyl, amine, single methyl, and gemdimethyl hydrogen atoms of either I or II; but cannot be interpreted in terms of structure IV. In accordance with these assignments the band in the r = 6.4 region is absent in the spectrum of the acetyl derivative, while a new singlet appears in the = 8.0 region which is attributable to the hydrogen atoms of the acetyl group. Also, the dihydro compound fails to show a band in the = 4.5-5.0 region, and shows a new, highly split multiplet centered about = 7.1, which may be assigned to a single hydrogen at the 4-position of I (or the 2 position of II), together with other changes in the region = >8.0.…”
