The use of mobile devices has changed the way we relate to each other, influencing teaching–learning processes and the motivation of adolescents towards these processes. One of the most developed tools has been applications (apps), which are software used on cell phones, tablets or computers. Hence, the aim of this study is to analyze the content of applications for mobile devices that is considered the most suitable complement to Physical Education (PE) classes for secondary school students. A retrospective descriptive study was carried out, collecting information on the main characteristics of 31 free fitness apps: the descriptive, technical, educational and psychological dimensions. The results of this study show that most of the apps for physical activity have recent updates and are mainly related to cardiovascular exercise or strength for two purposes: either for exercise accounting or the creation of training plans for the user. They are intended for users of very heterogeneous ages and, therefore, do not take into account their individual characteristics. They do not have an adequate design to facilitate their didactic use. Therefore, we conclude that the applications evaluated lack the necessary educational potential to be used in the PE classroom. Based on the content analysis carried out, we describe a series of criteria that allow teachers and adolescents themselves to select physical exercise apps, and we propose to carry out research to guide developers when developing digital training/physical exercise content with an educational component that can be used as a complement for adolescents in- and outside the field of PE.

Recently, the digitalization of education has been one of the dynamically developed issues across whole the levels of educational systems. However, the dynamic of the research in this area has accelerated much more than it has been originally expected via extrapolating the time line of research activities. The reason is mainly the pandemic COVID-19 and its impact on the distance learning and ICT technologies incorporation into standard educational processes without previous testing phase. Thus, even the attention paid to the digitalization of education has raised, its practical range has growth unproportionally and current situation has shown that in many aspects real practical needs are not covered by appropriate theoretical approaches. Following this fact, the aim of this paper is to analyse trends in the scientific approaches to the digitalization of education and to state whether there is consistency or radical change in detected trends under the impact of COVID-19. The scientific contribution of the fulfilment of such an aim consists in the identification of convergence eventually divergence between the theory and practice of selected field. Methodologically, bibliometric analysis provided in scope of Web of Science database via VOSviewer platform has been chosen as appropriate one. Based on such an approach, it has been analysed the basic dataset from years 2019-2021 where the consistency resp. radical change in the trends in the digitalization of education under the impact of pandemic COVID-19 has been identified. On the case study of this issue, the intensity of interactions between cotemporary theory and practice can be prospectively discussed in wider context of the usefulness of the science.

Digital literacy and digital competences are increasingly being formulated as important educational goals. In that regard, the precision, clarity and topicality of curricular guidelines relating to these concepts become vital, and this calls for research that investigates how digital literacy and digital competences are represented in curricular documents. This study makes a contribution to knowledge in this field by investigating the general curriculum for the Gymnasium in Denmark, with a specific focus on differences between the subjects. The article provides a qualitative analysis of 150 paragraphs containing between 4 and 175 words. The findings suggest that aspects relating to digital literacy and digital competences are broadly covered, but also that the different curricula formulate and organize these in very different ways. The article furthermore identifies a clear division of labour between the subjects, where the subjects within the educational field of Natural Science and Technology especially focus on ICT as a neutral learning tool and on ICT-operational competences. The challenges relating to these findings are discussed.
