“…Although the fish fauna of the Bank is relatively well studied [5,6], the annual bottom trawl survey carried out in this area and a greater effort towards the study of marine biodiversity have led to a better understanding the Bank's ichthyofauna. It is in this context that several fish species have been recorded on the Bank for the first time, as is the case with Gadella maraldi (Risso, 1810) [7]; Bellotia apoda Giglioli, 1883 [8]; N. macrolepidotus [9]; Gaidropsarus granti (Regan, 1903) and Poecilopsetta beanii (Goode, 1881) [10], most of them constituting new northern limits of distribution in the east Atlantic. The aim of this study is to provide a new northernmost limit of the distribution of N. microchir from the northeast Atlantic based on morphological and molecular characteristics and, in view of the results obtained, to discuss its current taxonomic status.…”

“…The fish fauna of this bank and the adjacent areas are well known (Johnston et al ., 2010; O'Riordan, 1984). However, some singular fishes such as Gadella maraldi (Risso, 1810), Bellottia apoda Giglioli, 1883 and Neoscopelus macrolepidotus Johnson, 1863 have also been reported in the bank (Fernández‐Zapico et al ., 2013; Ordines et al ., 2017; Ruiz‐Pico et al ., 2012).…”

“…The genus Gadella Lowe, 1843 (Gadiformes, Moridae) is represented by 12 or 13 valid species (Froese & Pauly, 2017) distributed worldwide, three of which occurring in the Atlantic Ocean: Gadella maraldi (Risso, 1810) and Gadella svetovidovi Trunov, 1992, restricted to the eastern Atlantic (Froese & Pauly, 2017) and Gadella imberbis (Vaillant, 1888) from Canada (Scott & Scott, 1988, about 41°N) to the Caribbean and southward to Brazil (Figueiredo et al, 2002, about 34°S), in the western Atlantic and from the Cape Verde Islands (Vaillant, 1888;González et al, 2010, at 15º28'N) to Namibia (González et al, 2010;Ruiz-Pico et al, 2012;Froese & Pauly, 2017, about 11°S), including the Walvis Ridge (Trunov, 1992, at 18º23'S), in the eastern basin.…”
