Background. Hand grip strength (HGS) is a tool for diagnosing sarcopenia. In this study, we examined some anthropometric and body circumference measurements as determinants for HGS. Methods. This cross-sectional study was conducted with participants (Mongolians, n = 1080, aged 18–70, mean age of 41.2 ± 13.9 years, 33.7% of men) from the “Mon-Timeline” cohort study. To measure HGS, a digital grip strength dynamometer was used. Results. Mean HGS in men was 40.1 ± 10.4 kg and in women was 24.5 ± 5.6 kg. Correlation analysis showed that the strongest correlation with HGS was height (r = 0.712, p < 0.001 ). Moreover, HGS was inversely correlated with age (r = −0.239, p < 0.001 ) and thigh circumference (r = −0.070, p < 0.01 ), while it was positively correlated with body weight (r = 0.309, p < 0.001 ), neck circumference (r = 0.427, p < 0.001 ), upper arm circumference (r = 0.108, p < 0.0001 ), lower arm circumference (r = 0.413, p < 0.0001 ), and calf circumference (r = 0.117, p < 0.0001 ). In the multivariate linear regression analysis (unstandardized B coefficient, 95% CI), age (−0.159, −0.188; −0.129), sex (−9.262, −10.459; −8.064), height (0.417, 0.357; 0.478), lower arm circumference (1.003, 0.736; 1.270), and calf circumference (−0.162, −0.309; −0.015) were significantly associated with HGS. Conclusions. When detecting sarcopenia using HGS, it is important to take into account variables such as body height and body circumference.

Background: The strength of one's grip is a good determining factor of their overall muscularity. Grip strength can be utilized in a variety of circumstances to assess and monitor a variety of health-related conditions. Objective: To evaluate the association of hand grip strength with BMI in cardiovascular disease patients. Methodology: An analytical cross sectional study was done on a population basis. A total of 256 patients of cardiovascular diseases were included in this study. Data were collected through purposive sampling technique. A proforma used to get demographic data including name, age, height, weight and occupation. Their BMI was also calculated. Hand grip strength was measured through handheld dynamometer of both hands. Three trials were performed by the patients from both hands. Results: Out of 256 total participants, 133 (52%) were males and 123 (48%) were females. Their mean age was 51.12 (SD = 12.513) and mean BMI was 26.533 (SD = 5.1012). Hand grip strength (HGS) and body mass index (BMI) had a negative and statistically significant association, for dominant hand (pearson’s r = -0.309, p = 0) and for non-dominant hand (pearson’s r = -0.308, p = 0). Mean hand grip strength of dominant hand was 24.677 (SD = 9.0567) and of non-dminant hand was 21.861 (SD = 8.8035). Age and duration of diseases also had a negative and statistically significant association with the hand grip strength of both hands of the patients with p value 0. Conclusion: It was concluded that the BMI had a great impact on HGS. Presence of CVD and the duration of this disease also affect HGS. With increasing age and obesity hand grip strength decreases. In the last five years, the female labor force has increased rapidly in Saudi Arabia. This is due to the new government’s vision to empower women. For many decades, Saudi females were excluded from working in certain fields due to cultural restrictions. Nowadays, Saudi women are not only joining the service workforce but are currently employed in more physically demanding careers, such as manufacturing and military jobs, which were previously dominated by males. It becomes necessary to design workplaces, tools, and equipment to safely accommodate the female physical attributes, which include body dimensions. This study presents the anthropometric measurements of Saudi Arabian adult females. In total, 504 female subjects aged 20–70 participated in the study. Thirty-eight body measurements, including weight and triceps skinfold, were taken in sitting and standing postures. The main contribution of this study is to provide a national anthropometric database of Saudi females, which is very limited, especially for females in the age groups under study. The availability of such data will allow foreign and local manufacturers to design usable and safe products and workspaces for a wide range of Saudi adult females. The findings reveal that there are no significant differences in the body dimensions of Saudi females across all age groups, except for stature height, eye height, chest depth, skinfold (mm), sitting height, buttock–knee length, and hip breadth. The study also reveals that Saudi females’ body sizes are different from other Asian, Middle Eastern, and British nations, which invalidates the assumption of using other nations’ body measurements to estimate Saudis’ body measurements. Utilizing the supermarket cashier workstation to assess the appropriateness of commercial station fit for Saudi females’ body dimensions, the results underscore the crucial role of anthropometric measurements in addressing differences between product design and the unique body dimensions of Saudi females. The identified anthropometric mismatch highlights potential risks, emphasizing the threat to the working safety of Saudi females. Moreover, the data can be used by health professionals as a base to evaluate the health of Saudi adult females. Descriptive statistics and extreme values are determined. The data are presented in standard anthropometric tables.
