Human structure-based plantar pressure (PP) analysis has been widely used in medical, sports, footwear design, and footwear sales. The current studies mostly focus on the development of PP measuring technologies and the analysis of pressure distribution features based on sensing results. Relatively few scholars have tried to analyze PP through image processing. To bridge the gap, this paper tries to classify PP images based on convolutional neural network (CNN). Firstly, the authors prepared the zoning and center calculation for PP images, and established a PP image classification model. Then, the PP image features were selected dynamically based on sparse, low-redundancy feature subsets, and the results of principal component analysis (PCA) were combined with the CNN to realize dynamic extraction of features from PP images. Finally, an image classification algorithm was designed based on the inter-area difference in PP distribution. The proposed algorithm was proved feasible through experiments. The research findings provide a reference for processing pressure images in other scenarios.

Effects of A Spinal Brace on the Functional Profile of the Feet in Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis

Purpose: To assess the impact of a spinal brace on the functional profile of the feet in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS).Patients and Methods: The subjects were 21 female AIS patients with double curves (range: 20°-45°). Baropodometry and stabilometry analysis during standing and walking and were performed without bracing and after 7 days of bracing. Plantar force distribution, contact area, foot angle, mean and peak foot pressures, step length, step width, cadence, and gait speed, center of pressure path length and sway velocities and confidence ellipse area were recorded.Results: Bracing did not affect baropodometry parameters during standing (p > 0.05). However, left foot plantar contact area was greater, mean pressure and peak pressures on the left foot were lower with bracing compared to without bracing (p < 0.05) during walking. Cadence decreased with bracing. There was no change in stabilometry results (p > 0.05).Conclusion:spinal bracing created more symmetrical plantar pressure distribution between the feet during gait. However, bracing tends to alter temporal-spatial walking parameters and disrupt gait in patients with double curve scoliosis. Plantar kuvvet dağılımı, temas alanı, ayak açısı, ortalama ve maksimum basınçlar, adım uzunluğu, adım genişliği, kadans, yürüyüş hızı, vücut basınç merkezi uzunluğu, salınım hızı ve güven alanı kaydedildi. bulgular: Korseleme ayakta duruş sırasında, baropometri sonuçlarını etkilemedi (p > 0.05). Sağ ayak ile karşılaştırıldığında yürüyüş sırasında, korseli durumda korsesize göre, sol ayak plantar temas alanı fazlayken, ortalama ve maksimum basınçları azdı (p < 0.05). Kadans korseleme ile azaldı. Stabilometri sonuçlarında ise değişiklik gözlenmedi. sonuç: Spinal ortezleme yürüyüş sırasında plantar basınç dağılımında simetri yarattı. Ancak bununla birlikte ortezleme, çift eğri paternli skolyozlarda, yürüyüşün zaman-mesafe karakteristiklerini değiştirerek yürüyüşü bozma eğilimindedir. The purpose of this paper is to measure human foot pressure at various important points and to provide the proper diagnosis for treating the post-operative orthopedic patients. Measurement of the human foot pressure distribution can provide vital information and is of great value for medical diagnostics. The distribution of human plantar pressure data depends on the conditions of the foot such as foot structure, function, the posture control of the entire body and gait. This device data will contribute greatly to the diagnosis, estimation of surgery and a better understanding of the pathogenesis of diseased foot with abnormal pressure distribution. The device will measure the foot pressure with the help of FSR, force sensitive resistor sensors which are placed on the upside of the sole of shoe. These sensors are connected to the Arduino Mega 2560. A custom-made software is created using LabVIEW. The patient’s details can be fed in and are saved in this software and when executed, the pressure data values collected is converted into digital pattern and a pedobarography is generated. This pedobarography image is displayed and saved in a word document and thus, enables the doctors to examine the foot pressure based on the deduced results.
