Normal waves in orthotropic plates and prismatic bodies with thin face coatings

Abstract: We construct and study the dispersion equations that describe the spectra of normal waves with various kinds of wave motion symmetry in a cross section of the waveguides. We compute the dispersion curve diagrams of symmetric waves for several directions of propagation in the plane of a plate and for the axial direction of a prismatic body of monocrystal Rochelle salt. Four figures. Bibliography: 4 titles

“…A number of papers [1][2][3][4][5] have been devoted to theoretical studies of the spectra of normal elastic waves in cylindrical and prismatic waveguides of low-symmetry rectilinearly isotropic materials in the context of an exact three-dimensional model of dynamic strain. In most respects this problem remains open, especially in those cases in which there is no similarity between the directions of elastic symmetry of the material of the waveguide and the shape of a cross-section of it.…”

“…Butko et al [1] have developed a method of solving problems of determining the spectrum of normal waves in elongated prismatic orthotropic bodies of rectangular cross section on whose planar faces there are superthin inextensible isotropic coatings [2]. In the present paper an analogous method is used to solve problems of the excitation of wave fields in a semi-infinite prismatic orthotropic bodies.…”
