Normal Unenhanced Raman Spectra of CO and CH₄Adsorbed on Cobalt(poly)

Study by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy of the Adsorption of Carbon Monoxide on a Cobalt Electrode at pH 3−14

“…Rao et al found, using EELS, and at high CO coverage of a polycrystalline Co foil, three bands at 1871, 1975, and 2072 cm -1 at 300 K. They assigned the bands at 1967−1975 and 2040−2072 cm -1 to bridge and linear CO, respectively. Marzouk et al . observed five Raman bands between 2130 and 2030 cm -1 , assigned to linear CO; five bands between 2010 and 1840 cm -1 , assigned to bridge CO; and three bands between 1830 and 1740 cm -1 , assigned to multibonded CO. With the exception of ref , all these data support the assignment of the band at 1810−1856 cm -1 to multibonded CO.…”

High coverage CO adsorption and dissociation on the Co(0001) and Co(100) surfaces from DFT and thermodynamics

“…The earlier Raman spectra results [55] have reported that the vibrational frequencies of CO adsorption observed at the top sites on Co metal are 2030-2130 cm −1 , those at the bridge sites are 1840-2010 cm −1 , while those at the 3-fold hollow sites are shifted to lower wave numbers of 1740-1830 cm −1 . Kuipers et al [56] have investigated CO adsorption on Co(0001) surface with RAIRS spectra, in which the vibrational frequencies observed at the top sites are 2000-2130 cm −1 , those at the bridge and 3-fold hollow sites are about 1900 and 1850 cm −1 , respectively.…”
