Normal Personality, the Dark Triad, Proactive Attitude and Perceived Employability: A Cross-Cultural Study in Belgium, Switzerland and Togo

Abstract: The current research examined the link between both normal and malevolent personality, proactive attitude, and self-perceived employability across some highly investigated (Belgium, Switzerland) and under-investigated populations of sub-Saharan Africa (e.g., Togo), considering proactive attitude as a potential mediator and self-perceived employability as an outcome. Conducting such a study in contexts which present notable differences in political organization and linguistic diversity, might contribute to enri… Show more

“…Furthermore, narratives play a crucial role in the formation and sharing of moral values, both on a personal and cultural level [ 8 ], and script-driven imagery was successfully applied to study emotional processing in an ecologically valid fashion [ 23 , 36 ]. (4) The high-scorers, defined by the highest quartile in this sample of students, extended the typical average scores reported from employers [ 37 ], graduates [ 38 , 39 ] or competitive athletes [ 40 ]; however, to qualify for this group it was enough to collect 62.2% of the possible points in the scale suggesting that higher scores may exist in critical samples. As we considered only a male sample, we cannot draw conclusions on sex-specific differences in the processing of moral values.…”

“…In their conclusion, the authors note that in cases where time is of the essence and a short measure of the Dark Triad is required, the SD3 scales yield effect sizes that are more consistent with the underlying constructs as they are measured using more established and validated Dark Triad scales. In Belgium, measurement invariance of the SD3 is previously tested in a cross-cultural study, however, the French translation of the measure was used ( Atitsogbe et al, 2020 ). Future research should examine the psychometric properties of the SD3 Dutch version as a short alternative self-report measure.…”
