Norian SRS Versus Functional Treatment in Redisplaced Distal Radial Fractures: A Randomized Study in 20 Patients

Abstract: We compared the use of Norian SRS, an injectable calcium phosphate bone cement, with functional treatment of redisplaced distal radial fractures in a prospective randomized study of 20 patients. The redisplaced fractures were either rereduced and stabilized by Norian SRS, or the displaced position was accepted and was not rereduced. All wrists were immobilized in a short-arm dorsal splint for 1 week, followed by a removable splint for another 3 weeks. The chosen primary effect variable was grip strength at 7 w… Show more

“…Complications were cement extrusion into dorsal soft tissues in 3 patients and mild carpal tunnel syndrome in 2 patients within the nonsurgical group. 35 Norian cement was again examined in a randomized study of 110 elderly patients (mean age, 65 years) treated either with Norian cement and 2 weeks of cast immobilization or short-arm casting for 6 weeks. Observations at 1-year follow-up revealed small but significant functional and radiographic differences (p Ͻ .02) in favor of the Norian group.…”

“…In the upper extremity, union of fractures of the humerus [91] and distal radius [92][93][94][95][96][97][98][99][100] has been achieved. Norian SRS Ò is effective in maintaining realignment of fracture parts after reduction of displaced or comminuted distal radius fractures.…”

“…In einer Studie über die alleinige Versorgung mit injizierbarem Knochenzement (Norian SRS®) im Vergleich zur konservativen Therapie zeigte sich kein funktioneller Unterschied nach 6 Monaten [33]. Das Bewegungsausmaß, Schmerzen und Griffkraft war in beiden Gruppen nicht signifikant unterschiedlich.…”
