The exit channels for elastic and alpha particles have been detected for "N bombardment on "C over the energy range E", = 45-60.0 MeV. Extensive statistical analyses of the data show evidence for nonstatistical structure (or "resonances"). Some of these structures are correlated in the two exit channels, especially one prominent structure at E, = 22.4 MeV. The reaction mechanism is discussed, and all the evidence is consistent with a quasimolecular resonance formed by the "N and "C entrance channel nuclei. NUCLEAR REACTIONS C( N N) ( N, C), ( N, n), E =45.0-60.0 MeV. measured'(E) at el, b=8' for n and a(E) at 8l»=15, 30 for N, t C; statisti.cal and Hauser-Feshbach analysis. Natural target. Resolution 130 keV for 0, , 400-700 kev for N, 2C. Discussion of reaction mechanism.
