In this study, we measured the concentration of some antioxidant substances in erythrocytes hemolysate, liver, kidney and brain in young and adult camels. It has been found that the activity of the antioxidant enzymes glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and the concentration of glutathione, ascorbic acid and alpha-tocopherol are high in both young and adult camels. GSH-Px and CAT activities were higher in adult camels than in the young whereas no significant difference in the activity of SOD between young and adult camels was noticed. Glutathione was present in all tissues studied. Ascorbic acid was found to have significantly higher values in young camels. From this study it could be concluded that, as in other mammals, camel tissues contain a powerful antioxidant system. The liver has the highest contents of antioxidants and antioxidant enzymes indicating that it plays an important role in pro-oxidants detoxification. Age has a variable effect on the antioxidant system in camels.

Until recently, hydrogen sulfide (H2S) was exclusively viewed a toxic gas and an environmental hazard, with its toxicity primarily attributed to the inhibition of mitochondrial Complex IV, resulting in a shutdown of mitochondrial electron transport and cellular ATP generation. Work over the last decade established multiple biological regulatory roles of H2S, as an endogenous gaseous transmitter. H2S is produced by cystathionine γ-lyase (CSE), cystathionine β-synthase (CBS) and 3-mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase (3-MST). In striking contrast to its inhibitory effect on Complex IV, recent studies showed that at lower concentrations, H2S serves as a stimulator of electron transport in mammalian cells, by acting as a mitochondrial electron donor. Endogenous H2S, produced by mitochondrially localized 3-MST, supports basal, physiological cellular bioenergetic functions; the activity of this metabolic support declines with physiological aging. In specialized conditions (calcium overload in vascular smooth muscle, colon cancer cells), CSE and CBS can also associate with the mitochondria; H2S produced by these enzymes, serves as an endogenous stimulator of cellular bioenergetics. The current article overviews the biochemical mechanisms underlying the stimulatory and inhibitory effects of H2S on mitochondrial function and cellular bioenergetics and discusses the implication of these processes for normal cellular physiology. The relevance of H2S biology is also discussed in the context of colonic epithelial cell physiology: colonocytes are exposed to high levels of sulfide produced by enteric bacteria, and serve as a metabolic barrier to limit their entry into the mammalian host, while, at the same time, utilizing it as a metabolic 'fuel'.

The potential of coming experiments on Large Hadron Collider (LHC) to observe the rescattering and energy loss of heavy quarks in the dense matter created in heavy ion collisions is discussed. We analyze the sensitivity of high-mass µ + µ − pairs from BB semileptonic decays and secondary J/ψ's from single B decays to the medium-induced bottom quark energy loss. 0 1) The suppression of high-p T jet pairs [21,22] with a corresponding enhancement of the monojet-to-dijet ratio [23,24]. Jets are produced in the initial scattering processes such aswhere the gg → gg process is dominant.2) The p T -imbalance between a produced jet with a gauge boson in γ+jet [25] and Z+jet [26] production, e.g.The Z-boson is identified through its decays to muon pairs, Z → µ + µ − .3) The modification of the high mass dimuon spectra from semileptonic B and D meson decays due to bottom and charm quark energy loss [27,28,29]:The above phenomena can be experimentally studied in heavy ion collisions [30] with Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS), which is the general purpose detector designed to run at the LHC [31]. In our previous work [22] we discussed the impact parameter distribution in the hard jet production processes (jet + jet, γ + jet and Z + jet channels) at LHC, which can shed a light on the dependence of parton energy losses on distance traversed (the coherence pattern of the medium-induced radiation can result in non-trivial behaviour of such dependence, see [13]). The main goal of this paper is to analyze the sensitivity of both high-mass µ + µ − pairs from BB semileptonic decays and secondary J/ψ's from single B decays to b-quark energy loss in CMS conditions. Note that the ALICE experiment [32] will also study dilepton production in heavy ion collisions although with a different rapidity acceptance: |η µ | < 2.4 for CMS while |η e | < 0.9 and 2.5 < |η µ | < 4 for ALICE. We believe that dimuon production in combination with high-p T jet production by gluon and light quark fragmentation can give important information about the medium-induced effects for both light and heavy partons in heavy ion collisions at the LHC.The high-mass dimuon spectra in Pb+Pb collisions at LHC has already been estimated in the CMS acceptance [29] assuming a constant energy loss per unit length of dE/dx = 1 GeV/fm. In our paper we consider the dynamical evolution of heavy quark energy loss and rescattering as a function of energy density in an expanding "hot" gluon-dominated plasma. We also investigate, for the first time, these effects on secondary J/ψ production from single B-meson decays.The outline of the paper is as follows. In Sect.2 we discussed the problem of medium-induced gluon radiation of massive quark for incoherent and coherent cases. A model for rescattering of a heavy quark in dense QCD-medium is described in Sect.3. Sect.3 and Sect.4 are dedicated to
