Nonlinear time history analysis of China Pavilion for Expo 2010 Shanghai China

Abstract: SUMMARYThe peculiar building style and special structural system of the National Hall of China Pavilion for Expo 2010 Shanghai is a long‐span and large cantilevered steel–concrete hybrid structure with a shape of an inverted trapezoid in elevation and local discontinuity of floor slabs in plan for esthetic and functional considerations. Because of these characteristics, the building is classified as an irregular and complex structure. To investigate the seismic behavior of the structure, a refined finite eleme… Show more

“…In Lithuania as well as in other countries design codes do not directly regulate design of non-typical structures [1]. Therefore, one should more carefully investigate the mechanical state of such system paying attention to the particular qualities and providing analysis of the most complicated fragments [2][3][4]. The numerical simulation methods are considered to be the most convenient and important means used in modern computational mechanics.…”

“…Therefore, the lateral stiffness requirements of the SF can be dropped, and the sectional size of the steel columns can be reduced. Dual systems have been widely used in high‐rise buildings located in the earthquake fortification zone of China, 9 wherein an external SF with the internal reinforced concrete core system (SFRCCS) is usually selected 10–12 . Shen and Lu 13 noted that the damage of an SFRCCS is often concentrated in the reinforced concrete core due to its relatively high stiffness and low strength.…”

[10][11][12] Shen and Lu 13 noted that the damage of an SFRCCS is often concentrated in the reinforced concrete core due to its relatively high stiffness and low strength. Moreover, horizontal cracks in the reinforced concrete core of an SFRCCS often appear at the bottom of the core due to bending deformation.…”

“…e finite element analysis models of this building were developed by using NosaCAD, which was used to form nonlinear finite element analysis models for Perform-3D. e two pieces of nonlinear structural analysis software have been widely used in structural analysis [13][14][15][16]. e optimal design of the FPTMD with varying friction coefficients and radius of friction pendulum under seismic excitations was carried out by elastoplastic time-history analysis in Perform-3D.…”
