Nonlinear Optimal Generalized Predictive Functional Control of Piecewise Affine Systems

Abstract: An algorithm for nonlinear optimal generalized predictive functional control is defined for controlling discretetime piecewise affine systems. The main piecewise affine form is transferred into a corresponding state-dependent system form. The principal piecewise affine system's hybrid properties are retained, and both the continuous and switching dynamics are combined in the same system description. This method enables the use of nonlinear generalized predictive functional control for this hybrid system class.… Show more

“…One of the main drawbacks of the traditional PFC technique is that it cannot cope well with challenging dynamic systems and may fail when dealing with unstable systems (Rossiter, 2017; Rossiter and Aftab, 2021). In addition, in many studies such as Alotaibi et al (2021), it is considered that the reference and disturbance states can be estimated. However, in practice, only the output trajectory of reference and disturbances may be available (Karimi-Ghartemani et al, 2011).…”

“…In many studies, a reference signal is exactly achieved in the steady state by the output (not the states) and robust properties including disturbance rejection are obtained optimally. Moreover in these methods, using reference and disturbance trajectories in the solution results in additional computational cost due to utilizing an estimator (Alotaibi et al, 2021). In some studies, tracking a reference in a finite time is addressed via a fuzzy backstepping control technique (Chen et al, 2021).…”
