Nonlinear optical absorption properties of porphyrins confined in Nafion membrane

“…With the recent advances in ultrafast lasers, the femtosecond-induced nonlinearities are of special interest for potential ultrafast nonlinear device applications. Such femtosecond-based nonlinearities reported for a variety of porphyrin complexes are either 1PA- or 2PA-induced nonlinearities of B-bands only. , , In very few reports, the IR region excitations resulted in typically 2PA-induced nonlinear absorption of Q-bands. The typical B-band-related femtosecond (∼120 fs)-induced 2PA absorption coefficients (β) are in the range of ∼10 –8 –10 –13 cm·W –1 and the nonlinear refractive index ( n 2 ) is in the range of ∼10 –12 –10 –15 cm 2 ·W –1 , depending on the porphyrin molecular structural arrangement. It is also to be noted that the contrast of nonlinear coefficient values may also arise from the low- (<1 KHz) or high (∼MHz)-repetition femtosecond lasers, which could possibly be due to Kerr- and thermal-induced effects, respectively.…”
