Nonlinear fluorescence response driven by ATP-induced self-assembly of guanidinium-tethered tetraphenylethene

Abstract: Nonlinear fluorescence response, which is particularly important to attain the high signal-to-background ratio, was realized by the aggregation-induced fluorescence increase of guanidinium-tethered tetraphenylethene with ATP.

“…The assay can also be carried out in diluted serum with a linear working range up to 175 U L −1 , suggesting its potential applications in clinical analyses of ALP levels in real samples. AIEgens have also been utilized to develop bioprobes working in a fluorescence turn‐on or light‐up mode for the detection of ATP, analysis of lectin–oligosaccharide interaction, examination of histone deacetylase activity, sensing of cholera toxin, testing of biogenic amines, real‐time monitoring of cell apoptosis, visualization of intracellular location and DNA origami, and assaying of other biological species …”

“…Similar to the other guanidinium‐tethered TPE sensors, a sigmoidal curve was observed at the beginning of the titration process for both G1 and G2 , with the addition of low concentrations of ATP (Figure ) . The non‐linear relationship for ATP recognition provided an opportunity for a high signal‐to‐background ratio, leading to higher detection sensitivity . The G2 –ATP aggregation arising from electrostatic interactions was further confirmed by dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurements and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).…”

“…[77][78][79][80][81] We also designed several molecular sensing systems utilizing the spectral changes induced by molecular assembling phenomena. [65,[82][83][84][85][86][87] In the present system, we have found that complexation of PT-1 with lithocholate induces the dramatic spectral changes, particularly in its fluorescence spectra. We therefore considered that this system would be also applicable for molecular sensing.…”
