Nonlinear dynamics and chaos in a shape memory alloy pseudoelastic oscillator

Abstract: Shape memory alloys (SMAs) have been used in different kind of application including those that explore their dynamical response. The key characteristics of SMAs are associated with adaptive dissipation related to their hysteretic behavior and changes in their material properties caused by martensitic phase transformations. This work discusses the dynamical response of one-degree of freedom (1-DOF) oscillator where the restitution force is provided by an SMA pseudoelastic element described by a smooth constitu… Show more

“…The normalized material constants employed for numerical simulations are presented in Table 1. These normalized values correlate with the material constants used in Machado et al (2007) and Lagoudas (2008). Few results from the subsection on isothermal pseudoelastic oscillator are available in the conference proceedings of ICOVP-2017, submitted by Jose et al (2017b).…”

“…In addition to jump phenomenon, chaos and bifurcation (Bernardini and Rega, 2005;Dos Santos and Savi, 2009;Lacarbonara et al, 2004;Machado et al, 2007a;Machado et al, 2007b;Machado et al, 2003Machado et al, , 2004Piccirillo et al, 2008Piccirillo et al, , 2009aSavi, 2015;Savi and Nogueira, 2010; were also studied in softening nonlinear dynamic systems with NiTi SMA. In sharp contrast, much less has been achieved on the experimental aspect.…”
