Noninvasive cuffless blood pressure measurement by vascular transit time

Abstract: Blood pressure (BP) is one of the most important physiological parameters that can provide valuable information for personal health care. There are two ways to measure human blood pressure viz. invasive and noninvasive methods. Though invasive methods have been known to measure BP continuously and accurately but they are extremely inconvenient to use and might cause infection. The widely used cuff-based noninvasive methods are also not very convenient to use especially for injured or obese people and infants. … Show more

“…The PAT has shown a high correlation with BP (especially arXiv:1812.00544v2 [eess.SP] 6 May 2019 SBP) [12]. Some papers have used other vital signals, instead of ECG, such as phonocardiogram (PCG) in [13] and [14], or ballistocardiogram (BCG) in [6], as the proximal timing reference to obtain PTT index instead of PAT index.…”

“…For example, the increase in PWV is shown as arteriosclerosis progresses. Its correlation with the blood pressure has also attracted attention and a cuff-less blood pressure estimation method using PWV has been proposed [7]. Furthermore, it is related to the mental state.…”

“…The PTT is the time delay between ECG R-wave till the onset of the first derivative of PPG. The vascular transit time (VTT) is an alternate for PTT which was measured between fingertip with PPG and the chest via phonocardiography [8]. In recent times, various studies used a mobile phone camera to estimate BP whereas some of the studies used different algorithms include the Windkessel model and neural network [9].…”
