Nonclassical Ruthenium Silyl Dihydride Complexes TpRu(PPh3)(η3‐HSiR3H) [Tp = Hydridotris(pyrazolyl)borate]: Catalytic Hydrolytic Oxidation of Organosilanes to Silanols with TpRu(PPh3)(η3‐HSiR3H)

Abstract: An X‐ray crystallographic study showed that it is more appropriate to describe the complexes TpRu(PPh3)“H2SiR3” as TpRu(PPh3)(η3‐HSiR3H), a static structure containing H···Si···H bonding rather than a highly fluxional pair ofσ‐silane hydride species TpRu(PPh3)(Ha)(η2‐HbSiR3) [rlhar2] TpRu(PPh3)(Hb)(η2‐HaSiR3). One of the complexes was used for the catalytic hydrolytic oxidation of organosilanes to silanols. A mechanism, which does not involve the usual oxidative addition of silane to the metal center to form t… Show more

“…To study the applicability of this tea‐bag‐like catalyst, the alcoholysis of dimethylphenylsilane with n ‐butanol,26 as well as the well‐studied hydrolytic oxidation of dimethylphenylsilane,27 were used as model reactions (Scheme ). Even at room temperature the catalyst system showed high catalytic activity, which also proved the reactants’ ready access to the inside of the PPX nanotubes.…”

“…8 An interesting oxidation is the hydrolytic oxidation of the silane with water forming hydrogen gas (eq 2). This reaction requires a metal catalyst, and a variety of catalysts have been reported, including cationic oxorhenium(V) catalyst, 9 platinum nanoclusters, 10 ruthenium silyl dihydride complexes, 11 aluminum oxyhydroxide-supported palladium nanoparticles, 12 and carbon-supported palladium nanoparticles. 13 Hydrolysis of tert-Butyldimethylsilyl Chloride.…”
