“…Our previous study indicated that the average pore radius of sol-gel silica from nitrogen adsorption/desorption analysis is about 2.6 nm, which indicates the pore diameter of sol-gel silica AR coating is about 5.2 nm. 41 The theoretical molecule weight of 0.2PMHS, 1.0PMHS and 1.5PMHS is calculated to be about 12 036, 2416 and 1602, respectively, and then the length of extended chains is estimated to be about 47 nm, 10 nm and 7 nm, respectively. (See ESI: † theoretical calculation of molecule weight and estimation of chain length of PMHS).…”

“…While fabrication of thin-films with graded index profiles is challenging, a variety of methods for fabricating high-quality thin-films with a range of optical properties, including oblique angle deposition, plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition, and sol-gel processes exist and they are presently being developed for greater control over film properties [32][33][34][35][36][37][38][39]. Furthermore, recent research has been directed towards the development of transparent films with very low indices of refraction, such as mesoporous and aerogel films [40][41][42][43]. Future research will focus on using low-index films to reduce the number of layers required for fabricating the TPCHMs because the amount of thermal radiation they reflect increases with increasing contrast between their high-and low-index of refraction layers.…”

“…Absorption bands at 1161, 1108, 1056, and 1032 cm −1 were attributed to C-O-C vibrations in the cellulose intra-and intermolecular structure [51,52]. For PMHS-modified cotton fabric, the grafting of PMHS chains on cotton fabrics is demonstrated by the appearance of bands from 2965, 1260, 835, and 765 cm −1 that correspond to the vibration of the Si-CH 3 group [53][54][55][56][57] of the PMHS chain and by an absorption band located at 2165 cm −1 that corresponds to the Si-H asymmetric stretch mode of the PMHS chain [58]. The obvious appearance of an -Si-H absorption band was attributed to the steric effect of plentiful -CH 3 groups on the PMHS chains.…”
