“…Furthermore, it is a non-invasive imaging modality, induces no pain, is low-cost, has an extensive range and high-resolution (33). Although ultrasound diagnosis is beneficial for use in the clinic, it has been previously reported that numerous factors, including performance status, comorbidity, sex and age, affect the diagnosis of patients with early-stage lung cancer (8). However, all of these factors cannot be modified prior to clinical application.…”

“…A previous study (8) has indicated that large cell carcinoma accounts for <10% in patients with lung cancer. Diagnosis of large cell carcinoma in the chest wall is challenging due to poor imaging quality of conventional ultrasound and the fact that features remain nonspecific in diagnostics.…”

“…It should be emphasized, however, that these studies have some important limitations, mainly because of the low number of patients enrolled and the selection of patients with good prognosis, therefore the transferability of the results can be questionable. Recently, a post-hoc analysis of a large prospective observational European study on 1,564 patients with newly diagnosed advanced NSCLC receiving a platinum-based regimen as first-line treatment, showed that in the subset of 263 patients with BMs the median OS was 7.2 months, ranging from 5.6 months for those treated with cisplatin plus gemcitabine up to 9.3 months for those treated with platinum plus pemetrexed (53). Interestingly, only 34% of patients had previously received cranial radiotherapy.…”

“…The types of NSCLC include adenocarcinoma, large cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, which together account for ~80% of all lung cancer cases (6,7). Despite advancements in the therapeutic regimens for lung cancer, the survival rate of patients with NSCLC remains poor (8)(9)(10). This is due to NSCLC typically being diagnosed at an advanced stage (11,12).…”
