Non-parametric inversion of strong lensing systems

Abstract: We revisit the issue of non-parametric gravitational lens reconstruction and present a new method to obtain the cluster mass distribution using strong lensing data without using any prior information on the underlying mass. The method relies on the decomposition of the lens plane into individual cells. We show how the problem in this approximation can be expressed as a system of linear equations for which a solution can be found. Moreover, we propose to include information about the null space. That is, make u… Show more

“…The unknowns of the lensing problem are in general the surface mass density and the positions of the background sources. As shown in Diego et al (2005a), the strong lensing problem can be expressed as a system of linear equations that can be represented in a compact form,…”

“…This elongation extends well beyond the virial radius of the cluster (Gruen et al 2013), but with an azimuthally averaged large scale massive profile that fits well the NFW form out to a radius of 2 Mpc/h (Umetsu et al 2015). In this paper, we make a strong lensing analysis of the deep new optical HFF data now completed for this cluster, using our general free-form lensing technique (Diego et al 2005a(Diego et al , 2007(Diego et al , 2016Sendra et al 2014). Our aim is to objectively identify new multiply lensed systems for understanding the properties of low luminosity galaxies in the high redshift Universe.…”
