We demonstrate a dichroic‐dye‐doped cholesteric liquid crystal light shutter device with fast response time, achromatic dark state, and polarization independence. The liquid crystal director is switching between the transparent homeotropic state to a dark transient planar state without scattering, and continually to focal conic state with little scattering. The device fabrication process is simple because of no alignment is needed and a simple electrodes structure used. It has potential to be applied in automotive applications to block oncoming headlight glare, and in AR real world image occlusion.
