Non-linear multivariable adaptive control of an activated sludge wastewater treatment process

Abstract: SUMMARYIn this paper a non-linear adaptive feedback-linearizing control is designed for a biological wastewater treatment model. The adaptive control structure is based on the non-linear model of the process and combined with a joint observer estimator which plays the role of the software sensor for the on-line estimation of biological states and parameter variables of interest of the bioprocess. The performances of both estimation and control algorithms are illustrated by simulation results. They demonstrate … Show more

“…51 Any control studies, for that matter, need not incorporate all the processes that have respective outcomes. 16 Generally, the controller designer assumes a simplification in the model stage to reduce the complexity. This action could probably lead to a conservative solution, degraded performances, and/or robustness.…”

“…A set of four nonlinear differential equations were considered for the current study. 16 Customarily, the control study does not demand a complete description of physical, chemical, and biological processes. Hence, a few assumptions were formulated within the biological model to make it less complex.…”
