Non-invasive Monitoring of Brain Temperature during Rapid Selective Brain Cooling by Zero-Heat-Flux Thermometry

Abstract: Introduction: Selective brain cooling can minimize systemic complications associated with whole body cooling but maximize neuroprotection. Recently, we developed a non-invasive, portable and inexpensive system for selectively cooling the brain rapidly and demonstrated its safety and efficacy in porcine models. However, the widespread application of this technique in the clinical setting requires a reliable, non-invasive and accurate method for measuring local brain temperature so that cooling and rewarming rat… Show more

“…MRI g and cUS are the 2 most important neuroimaging modalities for newborn infants. [ 12 ] The diagnostic value of cUS compared to MRI has also been extensively studied. [ 13 14 ] Franckx [ 15 ] and Duan et al [ 11 ] used early cUS, and Burkitt [ 16 ] used TEA cUS to predict brain injury on MRI.…”

“…This may be explained by brain hyperthermia. Hyperthermia might alter the follow-up of patient by ET-CT. We can overcome this problem by newly cooling system used practically in the brain cooling named by a zero-heat-flux Spot On sensor [17]. All G1 patients, n = 21, had surgical excision of lesions at primary sites, and 12 patients who had high SUVmax also received either chemotherapy or combination of chemotherapy and radiotherapy in addition to the surgical treatment according to level of metabolic activity.…”

“…A portable, economic system has been created for cooling the brain as well. This system provides efficacy and safety in porcine models (Bakhsheshi et al, 2019). An endoscopy in medicine is a procedure where organs inside the body are looked at using an instrument called an endoscope (a flexible tube with a camera).…”

“…Computer aided diagnostics (CAD) is a concept based on computer algorithms (Giger & MacMahon, 1996). CAD tools have become one of the key issues in medical imaging (Aghaei et al, 2017, March). CAD is a concept established by taking equally into account the knowledge of doctors and computer science, while automated computer diagnostics are a concept based solely on computer algorithms (Giger & MacMahon, 1996).…”
