Non-invasive confirmation of the identity of tablets by near-infrared spectroscopy

Abstract: Abstract. Calibration of non-invasive near-infrared (NIR) analysis for measurements in diffuse reflectance and transmittance was conducted to confirm the identity of different film-coated and uncoated tablets. NIR-spectra of both sides of the intact tablets were recorded in diffuse reflectance. The second derivation of the spectra was computed and spectral matching was calibrated. A restricted wavelength range was proposed to recognize the tablets independently of the presentation over the NIR-light beam. For … Show more

“…For example the Regularised, Linear or Quadratic Discriminant Analysis (RDA/LDA/QDA) are methods focusing on finding discriminant functions between classes [24]. The Nircal ® Cluster algorithm consists in a class oriented PCA [25,26]. For each calibration spectrum, a tolerance radius is determined, and the hyperspheres describing the clusters of each class are projected in the PC space.…”

“…NIR spectroscopy is a common technique for the identification of different tablets. 24 Here, this method was employed to study the structure of chemical bindings in different Xeloda concentrations in deionized water over a wide spectral range of 900-2500 nm. Figure 6a depicts the NIR spectra for different concentrations from 0.01 to 10 mg/mL.…”

“…A lot of publications describe the application of NIRS for the control of excipients, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and final products. Ulmschneider and co-workers applied NIRS to identify different types of starch, sugar, cellulose, intermediates and APIs with PCA and cluster calibration [49][50][51][52]. NIRS was used by Ebube and co-workers to differentiate between Avicel products [53].…”
