Non-intrusive characterisation of particle cluster behaviours in a riser through electrostatic and vibration sensing

Abstract: Particle clusters are important mesoscale flow structures in gas-solid circulating fluidised beds (CFBs). An electrostatic sensing system and two accelerometers are installed on the riser of a CFB test rig to collect signals simultaneously. Cross correlation, Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT), V-statistic analysis, and wavelet transform are applied for signal identification and cluster characterisation near the wall. Solids velocities are obtained through cross correlation. Non-stationary and non-linear characteri… Show more

“…During the trial operation of the power plant, the air velocity is measured by the air flowmeter, and the Klinzing model [16] is used to estimate the pulverized coal velocity. The velocity of pulverized coal in different pipelines was measured by electrostatic sensor arrays, and the results were compared with those estimated by Klinzing model.…”

“…As a result, the average velocity of Geldart D particles was significantly smaller than that of Geldart B particles. Sun and Yan [42], [43] applied arc-shaped electrostatic sensors to characterise the coherent structure and clusters in the riser of a CFB, in addition to the velocity and relative concentration of solids. Through a comparison of the extended self-similarity scaling law curves before and after the extraction, the effect of coherent structures on the flow intermittency was observed,…”

“…Zhang et al [8] investigated the mixing and segregation behavior of biomass particle in fluidized bed experimentally. Although many researchers had done a lot of research on the distribution characteristics of the regular particles [9][10][11][12][13], such as glass beads, quartz sand, relative characteristics study was scarcely concern about the particles of this special flexible ribbon type.…”
