Non-continuum effects on the sound of a heated line source: from a monopole to non-isotropic radiation

Abstract: We study the effect of continuum breakdown on the two-dimensional thermoacoustic radiation of a thin plate set in a perfect monatomic gas. The plate is heated harmonically in time and the acoustic field is investigated in the entire range of gas rarefaction rates.
