Plant parts and extracts that are rich in bioactive substances with allelopathic potential can be explored as a possible alternative to herbicides for natural weed control in sustainable agriculture. In the present study, we investigated the allelopathic potential of Marsdenia tenacissima leaves and its active substances. Aqueous methanol extracts of M. tenacissima showed significant inhibitory activities against the growth of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.), alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.), timothy (Phleum pratense L.), and barnyard grass (Echinochloa crusgalli (L.) Beauv.). The extracts were purified through various chromatography steps, and one active substance was isolated and determined by spectral data to be a novel compound, assigned as steroidal glycoside 3 (8-dehydroxy-11β-O-acetyl-12β-O-tigloyl-17β-marsdenin). Steroidal glycoside 3 significantly inhibited the seedling growth of cress at a concentration of 0.03 mM. The concentrations needed for 50% growth inhibition of the cress shoots and roots were 0.25 and 0.03 mM, respectively. These results suggest that steroidal glycoside 3 may be responsible for the allelopathy of M. tenacissima leaves.

Climate change mitigation is a major concern of the European Union (EU). In 2019, the EU presented the European Green Deal (EGD), a new environmental strategy that aimed to neutralize climate change by 2050. Within its policy areas, the EGD included the Farm to Fork (F2F) Strategy that aims to reduce pesticide use by 50%, by 2030. This reduction was proposed due to the supposed negative effects of pesticides on the environment and its biota. Among the different pesticide groups (herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, etc.) though, herbicides are perhaps the hardest to reduce. This review aimed to shed light to any factors that might hinder the reduction of herbicide use; thus, the implementation of the Farm to Fork Strategy underlines some of its weaknesses and highlights key points of a viable herbicide reduction-related policy framework. The literature suggests that integrated weed management (IWM) consists perhaps the most suitable approach for the reduction of herbicides in the EU. Even though it is too soon to conclusively assess F2F, its success is not impossible.

At present, chemical weeding and mechanical weeding are two commonly used weeding methods in China, although these two traditional weeding methods can achieve certain results, but also bring many problems. The use of highvoltage physical means to replace chemical herbicides can reduce the environmental pollution and drug residues caused by chemicals, and also solve the problems of mechanical weeding damage to crops and weed regeneration, and to a certain extent, weeds can not regenerate and green pollution-free treatment of weeds.In this paper, through the principle of high voltage weeding technology, domestic and foreign technology research and equipment development present situation, clear the current high voltage weeding technology in China has not affect the factors of weeding research and equipment development mostly stay in the design stage, and from the thorough analysis of multiple factors on the influence of high voltage weeding effect, high voltage circuit combined with visual technology to establish intelligent discharge model and considering the present situation of our terrain development and universality of the development prospect of high voltage weeding machinery in China.
