Nomogram Including Serum Ion Concentrations to Screen for New-Onset Hypertension in Rural Chinese Populations Over a Short-Term Follow-up

Abstract: Background: This study aimed to establish a clinically useful nomogram to evaluate the probability of hypertension onset in the Chinese population. Methods and Results:A prospective cohort study was conducted in 2012-2013 and followed up in 2015 to identify new-onset hypertension in 4,123 participants. The dataset was divided into development (n=2,748) and verification (n=1,375) cohorts. After screening risk factors by lasso regression, a multivariate Cox regression risk model and nomogram were established. Am… Show more

“…It is particularly bene cial in identifying high-risk individuals, as evidenced by its successful application in previous studies [44][45][46]. Furthermore, the recent development of the HTN nomogram has enhanced the ability to accurately assess HTN risk and provide tailored intervention strategies [47,48].…”

“…Fasting blood samples (fasting for more than 12 h) were collected, and serum lipids, serum creatinine, electrolyte levels, and other biochemical indicators were analyzed and measured using automated equipment (Olympus AU640; Olympus, Tokyo, Japan). Detailed methods of the physical examination and data collection process are discussed elsewhere 15 . At least two echocardiography experts (from the Cardiovascular Ultrasound Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University) conducted the echocardiogram analysis; a third expert was consulted for any cases of disagreement.…”

“…The Abbott Diagnostics C800i automatic analyzer (Abbott Laboratories, Abbott Park, IL, USA) was used for routine index determination. Blood lipid abnormalities were classified according to the NCEPATPIII standards and liver function cutoff values according to previous literature standards 24 , 25 : high low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) was defined as ≥ 4.14 mmol/L; low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) was defined as < 1.04 mmol/L; high total cholesterol (TC) was defined as ≥ 6.22 mmol/L; and high triglyceride (TG) was defined as ≥ 2.27 mmol/L. Increased aspartate transaminase (AST) was defined as > 35 U/L; high alanine transaminase (ALT) was defined as > 40 U/L; high uric acid (UA) for males was ≥ 420 μmol/L and for females was ≥ 360 μmol/L 26 ; and high white blood cell (WBC) count was defined based on the laboratory reference cutoff as greater than 10 × 10 9 .…”
