NOMA-Based Irregular Repetition Slotted ALOHA for Satellite Networks

Abstract: In this letter, a non-orthogonal multiple access (NO-MA) scheme is employed for irregular repetition slotted ALOHA (IRSA). Specifically, packet replicas are transmitted with discrete power levels which are pre-determined by the NOMA scheme. In this case, most packet collisions can be resolved in the power domain, contributing to a much lower packet loss rate. Density evolution (DE) analysis is formulated and the degree distributions are optimized for different number of power levels. Simulation results validat… Show more

“…In [4], by introducing a graph representation of the IC process, the iterative IC convergence and PLR performance can be derived by means of the graph-based DE analysis. Literature [5] also show that the PLR of IRSA with transmit power diversity by introducing DE analysis with directly decoded probability. According to the results in [4]- [5], let d λ denote the probability that an edge is combined to a degreed packet nodes (PN), which can be computed as…”

“…As the number of satellite users grows dramatically, the system will be facing the risk of spectral resource shortage in the future [11]. In this case, many studies have focused on the improvement of spectral efficiency [12]- [14]. Inspired by the power domain non-orthogonal multiple access (PD-NOMA) method in 5G, Shao et al [12] proposed a power domainaided ALOHA in the uplink satellite channel.…”
