“…The lesion in our case was markedly hypoechoic on the gray-scale images, and marked, prominent vascularity was noted within the mass on the color Doppler images. The differences in the echogenicity and color signals on US may reflect the subtypes of NF (i.e., the myxoid, cellular and fibrous types) and the variable vascularity contained in the individual lesions (9). The NECT and CECT findings of NF in our case were similar to those of previous reports in that there was a well demarcated lobular isoattenuating mass on NECT with strong, but slightly inhomogeneous enhancement on CECT.…”

“…The intramuscular type is typically larger in size (Meyer et al, 1991) and can mimic a sarcoma (Batsakis and el-Naggar, 1994). In the majority of NF cases, the history is of slow (over several weeks' duration) or no growth (Price et al, 1961). Our case was clinically fulminant with a history of a rapidly growing mass of a few hours' duration.…”

“…22 Intra-articular nodular fasciitis has also been described and is reported to contain prominent stromal hyalinization. 23 Although nodular fasciitis is typically composed of loosely arranged fascicles of (myo)fibroblastic cells with a 'tissue culture-like' growth pattern, Price et al 24 were the first to recognize three variants of nodular fasciitis: myxoid, cellular, and fibrous subtypes. The conventional view is that these variants likely represent chronological stages of evolving nodular fasciitis.…”
